Against burning daylight
"The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."
~ from the novel Burning Daylight by Jack London
I acquired the trail name “Burning Daylight” while backpacking the Colorado Trail with some friends who really enjoyed their time in camp. I was ready to get moving in the morning once the sun was up, only to find them contentedly lingering over breakfast complete with coffee with a campfire (!). I may have included the position of the sun in the sky in my argument for a quick departure. In the end we worked out a balance, although the breakfast campfires were non-negotiable.
